Loci Question Empty Loci Question

Post by chousta Sun Aug 17, 2008 3:32 pm

Two unlinked loci, A and B, perform the same function in production of pigment in
flowers so one or other is required for pigment. Both loci have recessive alleles, a and b
respectively, which are defective.
In the offspring of a cross between two doubly heterozygous individuals
what phenotypes are expected and in what ratios?

Include genotypes of all individuals and gametes, using
correct genetic notation.

Loci Question Empty Re: Loci Question

First, you have to make a cross between AaBb x AaBb. Gametes would be AB, Ab, aB, and ab for each parent. Since both A and B perform same function, you would expect all progeny containing at least one dominant loci (either A or B) to produce pigment. The only genotype that would result in the lack of pigment would be aabb. So, 15/16 would produce pigment and 1/16 would not.
